I began my teaching career in Norman in 1997. I taught in middle school and then at the high school level while in Norman. Since then I have been at the elementary level (the majority of my career). I enjoy teaching and can’t imagine doing any other job I find as rewarding. I have a husband and two sons. Both boys are currently in Edmond schools.
I graduated from OU with a bachelors in elementary education in 2005 and followed it with a masters in special education from the University of Maryland in 2008. I am a wife and a mom of two. I love running, college football, and traveling. I am so excited to be part of the Orvis Risner family!
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I am certified in special education, early childhood education, and elementary education. I have three fur-babies, a dog and two cats. I love teaching and working with students.
I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I am a second-year speech pathologist here at Orvis Elementary and I am enjoying my time here. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking pictures and cooking.
Tamara (Tami) Young provides support to students with speech articulation, fluency and communication/language needs. Mrs. Young earned a Masters of Education degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Central Oklahoma and maintains national Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association as well as Oklahoma state licensure. She will be at Orvis Risner Monday through Friday mornings this school year.
Instructional STEM Coach:
This is my 13th year at Orvis Risner Elementary. After 11 years teaching fourth and fifth grades, I made the move to our STEM coach last school year and have enjoyed every second of it! I love having the opportunity to enrich all students through active investigations. It’s so much fun watching students discover their world through real-world learning opportunities. My son, Aidan, is a 5th grader and my daughter, Ellie, is entering 3rd grade. Both are students here at Orvis Risner.
Instructional Reading Coach:
From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher! I began my teaching career in OKC in 1999 before moving to Edmond in 2009. In addition to my current position as the title 1 reading teacher, I have taught Pre-K, K, 1st, and 3rd grades. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, a minor in Early Childhood Education, and a Master’s in Reading. I am Nationally Board Certified as an Early Childhood Generalist. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends!
Instructional Reading Coach:
This year is my 25th year of teaching and my 19th year here at Orvis. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Reading, and I have my School Administrator’s certification. I have been married for 25 years, and we have two children. My daughter, Ella, is in the 9th grade at Memorial, and my son, Denton, is in his freshman year at Oklahoma Christian.
