I began my teaching career in Norman in 1997.  I taught in middle school and then at the high school level while in Norman.  Since then I have been at the elementary level (the majority of my career).  I enjoy teaching and can’t imagine doing any other job I find as rewarding.  I have a husband and two sons.  Both boys are currently in Edmond schools.

This is my 8th year with the Orvis Risner family. This is the 2nd best family there is. I’m proud to work with the Orvis team to serve all our kids.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I am certified in special education, early childhood education, and elementary education. I have three fur-babies, a dog and two cats. I love teaching and working with students.

I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Masters of Science in Speech-
Language Pathology. I am a first-year speech pathologist here at Orvis Elementary and I am
enjoying my time here. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking pictures
and cooking.

Speech Pathologist:

Tami Young



Tamara (Tami) Young has been with EPS for 10 years and has worked at a number of schools within the district.  She provides support to students with speech articulation, fluency and communication/language needs.  Mrs. Young earned a Masters of Education degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Central Oklahoma and maintains national Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association as well as Oklahoma state licensure.  She will be at Orvis Risner Monday through Friday mornings this school year.

This is my 11th year at Orvis Risner Elementary.  After 9 years in fourth grade, I made the move to 5th last school year and have enjoyed every second of it!  I love having the opportunity to enrich all students through active science investigations!  It’s so much fun watching 5th graders discover science!

From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be a teacher!  I began my teaching career in OKC in 1999 before moving to Edmond in 2009.  In addition to my current position as the title 1 reading teacher, I have taught Pre-K, K, 1st, and 3rd grades.  I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education, a minor in Early Childhood Education, and a Master’s in Reading.  I am Nationally Board Certified as an Early Childhood Generalist.  I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends!

This year is my 23rd year of teaching and my 17th year here at Orvis.  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s degree in Reading, and I have my School Administrator’s certification.  I have been married for 23 years, and we have two children.  My daughter, Ella, is in the 7th grade at Cimarron, and my son, Denton, is in the 11th grade at Memorial.
