Dear Orvis Risner Families,
It is an honor and pleasure to serve as the Principal of Orvis Risner Elementary and to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. This is my sixth year to lead the staff and students to continued excellence. Each day I am fortunate to witness the relentless dedication to academic excellence shared not only by staff, students and families but also by community members. Orvis is clothed in rich traditions such as our weekly “Eagle Vision” assembly, a STEM lab known as “The Eagle Zone”, a dedicated PTA and family-focused learning experiences. I will continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure Orvis Risner Elementary remains a learning institution which promotes academic achievement for all.
Orvis Risner is a Conscious Discipline School. We work to build a strong school family. Students are celebrated for talents they bring to the school and their classroom families. Teaching at Orvis Risner is a work of the heart.
The theme for the upcoming school year is “Around the World in 180 Days”. The theme will place awareness on the continents and cultural diversity. I can’t wait to witness where this theme will take us on our road to excellence.
I am confident Orvis Risner Elementary will continue on the path of excellence during the upcoming year. We have so much to be proud of as a staff, family, and community. If you have suggestions, comments, questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
I am blessed to be working with the Orvis Risner families and staff as the school psychologist. Prior to moving to Oklahoma, I worked in Kansas as a special education teacher and later, as a school psychologist. My husband and I have two children, who have settled in the Oklahoma City area. We enjoy our time with our children and grandchildren.
I have taught kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grades and one year in middle school. This is my 7th year as the school counselor at Orvis Risner. I am early childhood and elementary certified. I also hold certification in middle school social studies and guidance and counseling. I love being able to help shape the lives of young people. I love spending time in the mountains hiking, biking, and skiing. I am married to my high school sweetheart and together we have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren.
